Zip compression software which differs from the better known programme, winzip, by the simple fact that it is totally free. Seven zip can be used to backup data sets, archive important documents, or even distribute information to others on a regular basis.

One additional feature is the ability to unzip a wide variety of file formats inculding rar files which can often prove difficult to unzip (unless of course you have paid for a programme)

The supported formats at present are:
Packing / unpacking: 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2 and TAR
Unpacking only: RAR, CAB, ARJ, LZH, CHM, Z, CPIO, RPM and DEB.
